In 1947, Bryn Athyn artist Winfred S. Hyatt designed this Christmas card featuring a Nativity scene with the Adoration of the Shepherds (Luke 2:15-16). Positioned on the left, Joseph looks down at the Christ Child with his right arm slightly raised. Mary sits on the right, gazing at the infant, as a gentle light shines from the manger. Two shepherds stand behind the manger holding shepherds’ crooks. This card was sent by Hyatt and his wife, Peggy, to Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn. Hyatt is remembered principally for his work at Bryn Athyn’s stained-glass studio, which produced windows for both Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Glencairn. He worked for the Pitcairns from 1916 until his passing in 1959.
