Google Arts & Culture is an immersive way to experience art, history, and culture from more than two thousand organizations worldwide. Glencairn Museum launched its official partnership with this innovative Google platform in 2020, and since then over 200 works of art from the Museum’s permanent collection have been published online. The Museum’s virtual collection may be viewed here, with more objects being added regularly. Please keep in mind that not all of these objects are currently on exhibit in the galleries; some are in storage, but the Google platform provides a way to view high quality images of them.
The mission of Google Arts & Culture is “to preserve and bring the world’s art and culture online so it’s accessible to anyone, anywhere.” High-resolution, “zoomable” photos of objects in the Glencairn Museum collection, accompanied by descriptions, bibliographic citations, and links to more information, will be added regularly. New photography with state-of-the-art equipment is being created in-house at Glencairn in order to meet Google’s specifications.
