Kick off the holidays with a sneak-peek at what Glencairn has to offer this season. Museum members are invited to join us, free of charge, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, November 19-21, 2012, for our NEW “Christmas in the Castle” guided tours and a preview of this year’s Follow the Star: World Nativities exhibition.
On this 45-minute guided tour you will explore works of art in the Glencairn collection depicting the Nativity of Jesus Christ, dating from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Stops include the Great Hall, Upper Hall, Tower, Chapel, and Medieval Treasury. The tour also reveals how Christmas was celebrated in Glencairn when it was the private home of the Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn family (1940s to 1970s). Artifacts and historic photos will help to answer the question, “How do you celebrate Christmas in a 20th century castle?”
Guided tours depart at 2:30 and 3:30pm. Reservations strongly recommended. You will be invited to give us your feedback by filling out a short survey after your tour, and you can explore the Nativities exhibition following the conclusion of the tour.
To make your reservation or for more information, contact Leah Smith, tour coordinator, at 267-502-2993 or by emailing tours@glencairnmuseum.org.
We look forward to seeing you!
