In collaboration with the Tasso in Music Project, Les Canards Chantants presents Tasso in Ferrara: a musical timeline of celebrated Italian renaissance poet Torquato Tasso’s fruitful and tumultuous years at the court of Duke Alfonso II d'Este in Ferrara. Tasso's lyrics not only shaped the literary culture of his time; they proved irresistible to composers, enjoying a second life in the music of virtually every madrigalist in Italy and Europe. Come and experience selections from Tasso's romantic Rime, playful pastoral L'Aminta, and epic poem Gerusalemme liberata, heard through the diverse madrigal settings of Marenzio, Gesualdo, Wert, and more.
Les Canards Chantants is an American solo-voice ensemble performing renaissance polyphony, praised for their ‘elegant vocalism’ (Philadelphia Inquirer), ‘finely tuned vocals, robust singing, emotional flexibility, and sense of adventure’ (Broad Street Review), and ‘liveliness and theatricality’ (Boston Musical Intelligencer).
